We welcome reader participation!
This is your chance to suggest topics that you would like to see covered, to submit horse/pony photos for public analysis or make any other suggestions.
There will be a Sport Section (Western and/or English), a Racing Section (Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred and/or Endurance), a Points to Ponder Section and a regular, in-depth contribution from Ceci Flanagan-Snow (www.eclipsecommunications.ca) on subjects of concern regarding horse care.
Projects under consideration include:
- A study to examine the relativity of point of shoulder to performance and soundness plus a way to determine high, medium or low placement.
- Pictorial studies of horses through a full range of motion within their jobs.
- A pedigree and conformation analysis comparing horses of similar breeding.
- A pedigree and functional conformation analysis comparing horses within the same discipline, for example, Big Ben and Baloubet du Rouet – 2 repeat winners of the World Cup in jumping that were not considered well built.
- Functional conformational analysis of the Breeders’ Cup horses by race category. (Pictorial) Example: Showing what sprinters have in common, what classic runners have in common and how the two groups differ.
- Comparisons of successful and non-successful horses in various disciplines – both functional conformation and pedigree analysis.
- Examination of recent studies regarding the equine and practical applications related to the results.
- Interviews with researchers involved with a variety of topics, including the Horse Genome Project.
- Observations regarding trends in breeding.
- Perspectives on major competitions plus interviews with top riders, trainers and breeders.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you and am excited about the prospects. It will be a joy to shed the constraints of word count and number of photos imposed by most magazines due to space and/or budget considerations. Thanks in advance for your interest and your input.
