Sport Horse and Thoroughbred Syndicates

Judy Wardrope noticed, and has written about, the fact that while many of the warmblood registries are actively seeking the 'right type' of Thoroughbred, the current racing industry seldom produces that type of horse.

In fact, the Jockey Club's statistics show that the average number of lifetime starts has decreased, which shows the decline in soundness and longevity. In contrast, the sport market seeks to avoid inherent unsoundness.

The statistics also show that the races have decreased in distance, with the number of races over 12 furlongs representing less than 1% of total races in North America. For eventing, distance capabilities are a definite requirement, and from a functional conformation perspective, certain skeletal characteristics of a distance racehorse equate with those of top show jumpers.

Sadly, as the trend to shorter races continues, the ability to find distance pedigrees that are undiluted by sprinting influences will be further restricted. If the horses carrying the bloodlines and the conformation required for the FEI disciplines are not identified, purchased and put into a directed breeding plan, they will be lost forever.

The primary focus of the syndicates is the breeding and promotion of the 'right type' of Thoroughbred for equestrian sport based on pedigree and functional anatomy for the sport disciplines.

Syndicates are an instrument for combining investors (on a per share basis) to share in ownership, costs and profits. The advantages of this shared investment are increased buying power, decreased individual costs and a sharing of profits from winnings and sales. Expert management will be in place for selection, breeding, training, promotion, sales and other decisions regarding the horses within the syndicates.

Be part of history and join the efforts to produce quality Thoroughbreds for sport before it is too late. Sport bloodlines, the ones that produce the functional conformation for sport, are rapidly disappearing.
